Tchaikovsky Ballet

With its roots extending back as far as 1870, The Tchaikovsky Ballet and Orchestra, located in Perm, is one of Russia's most distinguished artistic companies and is widely considered to be Russia's third most prominent ballet company, behind the Bolshoi and Kirov Ballets.
Pyotr Tchaikovsky was born less than 100 kilometers from Perm, and Perm was the home of Sergei Diaghilev, the artistic director of the famous Ballet Russes, which revolutionized the staging of ballet.
1941 saw the beginning of the most important event in the life of Perm's ballet tradition as the Kirov Ballet Company evacuated Leningrad to the safer city of Perm during World War II and performed at the Tchaikovsky Ballet and Orchestra's Theater for nearly five years. The Tchaikovsky Ballet and Orchestra and the Kirov Ballet have enjoyed a very close relationship ever since.
Over the years, the major ballet school from the city of Perm, and The Tchaikovsky Ballet and Orchestra have produced numerous ballet dancers, the most famous of whom is undoubtedly Nadezhda Pavlova, as well as dozens of brilliant dancers currently performing in leading companies throughout North America and the world, including at the Kirov and Bolshoi Theatres.
